Final Project - Realtime Interactive Sketchbook
This is a virtual community where strangers can communicate with each other as a hand drawn character based on real life. The virtual space is also based on the real world by getting model data from OpenStreetMap.

About Strangers
In my another class, Sketching Communities, where I kept drawing these strangers in my living area. I was supposed to interview them for the class assignment. However, I also found it really uncomfortable to talk with strangers. Here is where the idea comes from. What if we can hide behind these hand drawn characters and walk past each other in a virtual space just like our real world? I think we will have more courage to talk with strangers then.
About Visual Space
At first I thought of drawing some actual scenes and then use layers to create the virtual space, so that people have more sense of a real world, which also creates an background story for them talk. However, the result isn't good and this method takes a lot of time. Therefore, I think of a more scaleable way to create virtual space. That is to use OpenStreetMap. Here is part of 3D New York City model exported with OpenStreetMap data.
